Training workshops in hairdressing and batik making for women in order to strengthen their economic capacity and their self-pormotion

Objectives of the project:
o Training women of the selected villages to acquire new skills;
o Favoring women’s access to a lucrative economical activity;
o Favoring self-promotion and autonomy acquisition for women.

Activities to be initiated:
In response to the needs expressed by the beneficiaries themselves, the project proposes three trainings, each one for ten women:
1) Training in aesthetic practices and hairdressing;
2) Training in sewing;
3) Training in soap and batik making.
For each training, women will also benefit from an initial capital to begin their activities (materials and equipment for the hairdressing salon, sewing, soap and batiks making).

Project duration: from January to December 2006

Motivation for the project: participating women are widows or abandoned women, having scarce access to a source of income or to a job, but with a strong desire to become more autonomous thanks to the acquisition of new skills.

Beneficiaries: 30 unemployed women, living in great economical distress. They took an active part in the identification of the project.

Volunteers: 15 AIC Ghana volunteers

Total Project Budget: 3511.00 Euros
Amount requested to financial partner: 3511.00 Euros
Local Contribution: the AIC volunteers work time (168 hours a week), the workshops premises are donated by the beneficiaries.
