AIC HAITI - 2005
JEAN DELVA PRIZE
“Accompanying families from Tabarre Fleuriau
and neighborhoods to fight against financial dependence
of women victims of violence”.
Project Description
and activities
Faced with violence towards women detected
by the Health Care Center of the parish, AIC-Haiti
intended to study the causes of such violence and
to remedy it. A lot of victims are unemployed and
untrained, that is why they are financially dependent
on their husband or companion exclusively, to provide
for their needs or their family’s ones. This
dependence makes them unable to react when they are
confronted with violence. In other cases, husbands
or companions have other women and the money they
get back home is not sufficient to face household
expenses. Then comes escalation: complaints, acid
words, cries and finally blows.
The project is aiming at working concretely, thanks
to micro-credit, against the causes of violence towards
women, and more particularly against women’s
financial dependence.
Main activities:
- Training sessions for women to promote their independence;
- Sessions to raise awareness of women and men from
the community about violence
- Distribution of micro-credits to provide for their
needs and their family’s ones

fathers
