PUERTO-RICO- 2005 JEAN DELVA PRIZE:
« ¡Basta! No más violencia
contra la mujer’ » – Campaign to
raise awareness of children and young people in school
about problem of vio-lence towards women.
Project Description and activities
The main objective of the project is to raise awareness
of children and young people about respect due to women:
mothers, girlfriends, friends, neighbors, and companions…
By this project, all AIC Puerto Rico volunteers commit
themselves to promoting this awareness through several
initiatives with:
- headmasters of the catholic schools of the 5 elected
dioceses;
- persons elected by the schools to deal with the project;-
children and young from catholic schools of Puerto Rico;
- Vincentian Family of Puerto Rico, particularly with
the Daughters of Charity and the Congregation of the
Mission;
- written press: El Nuevo Día, national paper,
and El Visitante, catholic paper distributed in all
the parishes of the island.
Activities
- Start and visibility activities - Five minutes prayer
and reflexion in all schools, on November 21, 2005,
from 11:55 to 12 :00;
- Preparing with children and young panels illustrating
the struggle against violence towards women, and wearing
a violet ribbon in memory of the victims;
- Reading and explanation of AIC manifesto against violence
towards women, in schools;§ Publication in written
press of articles about activities organized in schools
- Search for partnerships with private instances fighting
against violence toward women;
- To lobby on public institutions to include struggle
against violence toward women in school programs of
all Puerto Rican schools.
Target Groups:children
and young from 6 to 17, students in the catholic schools
of 5 dioceses of
Puerto- Rico.
