Role and tasks of the Ecclesiastic
Counselor of AIC´s Associations and Groups
By Marina Costa / Anna Rovetta
In this document, we describe the role of the ecclesiastic
counselors that help members of the International Association
of Charities. Many people exercise this ministry: priests
of the Congregation of the Mission, Daughters of Charity,
Fathers and Sisters from other congregations and numerous
laics. This document employs two words to describe their
role: their mission is formation and animation.
Our recommendation is that this document is studied in
meetings where there are several AIC groups, in regional
meetings or even in national meetings. It is a good method
to help each other in the fulfilling of their mission.
A counselor, according to the word use in the 1998-2002
AIC Guide Lines, the counselor is a "multiplying
agent". He or she, dedicate time to help others and
to grow in the life of the Spirit, to acquire the necessary
qualities to be a good, fervent servant of the poor.
Father Robert P. Maloney, Superior General of the Congregation
of the Mission, speaking of this document said the above
and added:I pray the Lord so the seed planted by the AIC
counselors produce abundant fruits in the life of the
members of the association. This is, surely, the role
that is nearer Saint Vincent´s heart. I pray that
he blesses everyone that with great generosity are committed
to this service.
