The AIC St Louise de Marillac group was founded on August 18th, 2012, and is currently made up of 15 volunteers. Six of them offer their services at the San Ramón Retirement Home, located in the southern part of the city of La Paz in Bolivia. The home houses around 12 people, both women and men.
Every month, for 2 hours, the AIC volunteers visit the home to cut the residents’ hair and offer them a manicure and pedicure. The women particularly appreciate getting their nails polished and the moisturizing massage they are also offered.
This is a special time for residents to talk to the volunteers and enjoy a relaxing afternoon away from the daily routine. The volunteers, for their part, make sure to always be attentive, warm and caring towards the residents.
This initiative came about when the group of AIC volunteers learned that the retirement home did not have enough staff. They offered their services with great enthusiasm because, as St Vincent teaches us, they see in the elderly Christ himself.
